Hotel Relais de Charme Antica Dimora alla Rocca

When traveling through Italy, forget the large corporate chains with their generic, sanitary designs and go with a local pensione to experience la dolce vita at its sweetest. Located in the southeastern side of Umbria in the hilltop town of Trevi, the 4 star Hotel Relais de Charme Antica Dimora alla Rocca is located in the heart of this medieval town which is said to have one of the best views of the Umbrian landscape.

Exterior of the hotel

The building itself dates back to the 16th century with the hotel being housed in two parallel buildings. Although much of the charm of the original architecture has been preserved, in 2012 a change of management led to a complete refurbishment. There are 32 en-suite bedrooms that feature central heating and air conditioning, LED TVs, mini-bars, room service, 24 hour access to reception, with free WiFi and internet access.

Onsite, the hotel has one restaurant, located in the old oil mill, with medieval vaulted ceilings and terracotta flooring. As well as 2 bars, one indoor and the other in a little square outside the hotel. In a small courtyard there is a swimming pool available for guests during the Summer months.

Hotels We Can’t Wait to Visit: Part 2

This is the second part of the hotels we can’t wait to visit. From the converted castle in Ireland with its expansive gardens and authentic atmosphere and the chic, modern Parisian hotel providing both comfort and access to major attractions, to the ultra relaxing overwater bungalows of the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort.

Dromoland   Castle

Ireland is one of my favorite destinations, and I have always wanted to  stay at Dromoland Castle in County    Clare, Ireland.   A 5-star hotel  with elegant, beautiful furnishings, wonderful grounds and impeccable service, Dromoland caste is set amongst Ireland’s characteristic greenery.

The rooms are beautifully and elegantly furnished and the  public areas are wonderful.  Staying at  Dromoland Castle allows you to experience staying  in a castle to it fullest.  The castle grounds  include a Walled Garden,   lake, and golf course.

Mandarin Oriental, Paris

Having traveled to Paris  several times in the past, we’ve had the pleasure to stay at a number of remarkable  hotels in the area.  Of the hotels we on  this list the Mandarin Oriental, Paris is easily the newest having opened its  doors in 2011.  Sitting on the Rue  Saint-Honore, the hotel has a prime location in the center of Paris  being only blocks from the Tuileries gardens, the Louvre,  and the Champs Elysees.

The hotel combines all the style and elegance of modern and  historic Paris  with rooms that are unusually spacious for a city where space is at a  premium.  On site the hotel has three  restaurants, bars, and a cake shop.  The  restaurants are all overseen by Thierry Marx whose Sur Mesure has been awarded  two Michelin Stars.  With spa amenities  that Mandarin Oriental is known for, and courtyard gardens.

Mandarin Oriental is world renowned for a good reason.  Due to its location, its quality rooms,  restaurants, and incredible interior gardens a stay there is a natural choice for anyone visiting Paris.

St. Regis Bora Bora  Overwater Bungalows

My idea of a trip to Paradise  would be staying at the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort in an overwater villa located on the tropical island   of Bora Bora in the shadow of nearby Mount Otemanu,  the island’s highest peak.

The resort has both over-the water and beachfront villas,  all with spectacular views.   Each villa has two 42-inch plasma tv’s, an outdoor shower, wireless internet access and St. Regis Butler  Service. Secluded cabanas are available around the pool and the main  pool has a swim-up bar.  There  are also sandy white beaches,  a private saltwater lagoon filled with native fish, and stingrays for  snorkeling.  In case you want to visit the spa, the Miri Miri Spa is on its own  private island.

Villa d'Este

Villa d’Este

Sitting on the infamous lake Como,  the Villa d’Este has its roots in the Renaissance when it was constructed by  Tolomeo Gallio as a private residence in the 16th century. It has since enjoyed a long  and colorful history until reaching its present purpose as a luxury hotel in  the late 19th century.   Today the hotel is a destination on a  lake that attracts high profile guests to its elegant gardens and rooms.

Why We Can’t Wait to Stay There:

As travel professionals, we’re no strangers to the variance  of hotels across the world.  We remain  lovers of a hotel that matches the destination in style and decor.  Located near Cernobbia, the people who come  to the Villa d’Este do so for the hotel and the lake.  With six bars, restaurants, and outdoor  cafes; gardens which offer the best of Italian landscape design; and period  rooms that are each luxurious and modern in their appointments, the Villa d’Este  has well earned its reputation as an icon of luxurious Italian hotels.

For those wanting a European respite purely for relaxation  and enjoyment, and are willing to pay for it, the Villa d’Este tops our list  for hotels we can’t wait to stay at.

Grand Hotel Pupp

Grand Hotel Pupp

The Grand Hotel Pupp came across our radar when we saw it in  the 2006 movie remake of Last Holiday starring Queen Latifah and, later that same year, Casino Royale.   Located in the spa town of Karlovy Vary, the building was built in 1701  for a different purpose and features a neo-baroque architectural style.  While the hotel itself is worthy of the trip itself, but the town offers a remarkable undiscovered opportunity for  travelers.

Naturally, the city’s hot    springs and mineral baths are a must try as the waters  are touted for their healing properties.   Also available is Moser glass, Thun porcelain, herbal liqueurs, and a  variety of other souvenirs and shops to pick about.  For guests staying at the hotel, the Grand  Hotel Pupp offers a large array of spa treatments and the type of casino you’d  expect from a 007 movie.

Why We Can’t Wait to Stay There:

To begin with, all of the reasons we listed above.  Secondly, any chance we get to explore a new  destination within a destination that takes us off-the-beaten-path has never  failed to provide us with something memorable.   Karlovy Vary is located over 75 miles  from Prague and doesn’t suffer the tourists who  are just starting to discover Eastern Europe’s  treasures.  As a destination it offers a  wide array of unique attractions, but also a sample of what the Czech Republic  has as a destination.

Hotel Marques de Riscal

Hotel Marques de  Riscal

All of the hotels listed here can easily be described as  works of art, but the hotel Marques de Riscal, which is part of Starwood  Hotels’ Luxury Collection property, is genuinely so as a prime example  of function following form.  Designed by  famed architect Frank Gehry, the building was built in his characteristic,  deconstructivist style which can be found throughout the hotel in the rooms,  the spa, and restaurants.

As interesting as the hotel is, taking into account its  location in the village of Elciego, Spain provides a whole new context.  Situated in Basque country, the town sits in  the famous Rioja wine region offering several points of interest to  travelers in the area.

Why We Can’t Wait to Visit:

The design of the hotel itself is enough to draw our  interest, but the pricing of the rooms and its location are reason enough for any traveler looking for something off the beaten path to  mark the Hotel Marques de Riscal as a possible vacation in the future.
