Everyone seems to be talking about what to expect as the IT destinations for 2012. But, here’s our own compilation of destinations to consider for your own travels in 2012.
Asia
Japan
It’s been almost a year since the devastation of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that further resulted in a tsunami and was further complicated by the threat of the Fukishima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Today the state department warns US Citizens only against coming within 20 kilometers of the power plant. Other than that reconstruction has restored the island nation.
For visitors to Japan there are multiple times throughout the year that are good to go. With several excellent cities to visit:
Tokyo
The modern capital of Japan is among the largest metropolitan cities in the world. Alone it epitomizes the modern asian city.
Kyoto
The glory days of the former imperial capital of Japan are gone but Kyoto is filled with prime examples of traditional Japanese architecture, gardens, and religious sites.
Okinawa
One of the southern most islands belonging to the Japanese archipelago. Although it is technically a part of the modern Japanese nation Okinawa’s culture, language, and cuisine has marked differences with mainstream Japan. Okinawa is also a great destination for those wanting to go off the beaten path.
China
China has long been a destination for those seeking an adventurous cultural experience. Today there are several aspects of the country to explore for any traveler looking for something unique.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong
Many can remember when Great Britain restored control of Hong Kong back to the Chinese in 1997. Today the city is a bustling metropolis that has flourished under the “one country, two systems” ideology that has maintained its capitalist system while the rest of mainland China is operated under socialist government. LIke several other former British colonies Hong Kong reflects both its Chinese heritage and a western edge.

Beijing
The Capital of the People’s Republic of China is home to a great many historic sites such as the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and Beihai Park.
South America
Brazil
The largest country in South America Brazil is known for its vibrant atmosphere, rainforests, and diversity.
Rio de Janeiro
Many tourists come to Rio de Janeiro for the beach atmosphere, carnival, and to the massive statue of Christ the Redeemer. An amalgam of its colonial history several aspects of Portugese culture have been transplanted and been influenced by the region’s resources. This can be found in the varied Brazilian cuisine, the arts, and music.
Sao Paulo
Sao Paulo is remarkably diverse with a significant population of Italians, Portuguese, Spanish, and Japanese. All of which contribute to the overall quality of the city. With it’s own vibrant nightlife, shopping, gastronomy Sao Paulo is, like the rest of Brazil, unique to itself.
Europe
Croatia
Eastern European countries are just starting to be discovered as destinations. Croatia sits along the Adriatic Sea opposite of Italy and is populated by preserved Renaissance cities and castles.
Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik
Many are familiar with the image of red roofed, walled, blue watered Mediterranean city. There are few major destinations in the city but the experience of exploring is alone worthwhile. Due in large part to the influences of nearby cultures Dubrovnik has a unique character. Popular sites include the walls of Dubrovnik, various churches, and Renaissance buildings.
